A Bit About Kecia

Kecia McAlpine, a Birmingham, Alabama native, is the proud mother of Morehouse dual degree major and senior Khyler Jordan Scilingo McAlpine. A graduate of Woodlawn Magnet High and Talladega College, she has dedicated over 30 years to education—24 of those in South Florida—teaching English Language Arts, SAT/ACT prep, journalism, drama, and leadership development. She's also mentored new teachers and tutored adult ESL learners and certification candidates.

Since returning to Alabama in 2017, Kecia has taught English and TV production for Alabaster City Schools, while also serving on the Thompson High football media team, contributing to their 4-time 7A State Championship wins. She’s worked with Upward Bound TRIO and GEARUP as an academic tutor at the University of Montevallo and Lawson State Community College.

A passionate advocate for Black men’s health and wellness, Kecia is the founder of Kecia Thee Kreator and hosts Teachable Tuesday, a social media platform addressing socially conscious topics. She serves on Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin’s Women’s Initiative Council and has held several leadership roles within MCPC—including Region I Rep, Vice Chair, and Executive Board Chair.

As Chair, she boasts a bevy of firsts for the Parent Council—solidifying the group’s presence at NSO, hosting an all-parent Zoom, strengthening collaborations with the local National Alumni Association, awarding scholarships to a student in each of the Council’s nine regions, and launching the first-ever Scholarship Brunch, to name a few. She proudly and eagerly returns to the position with the desire to do even more for the Men of Morehouse.
