Ria Chandler

A Bit About Ria

Ria Chandler is a native of the Derby City, Louisville, Kentucky and is the mother of two sons. Christopher Chandler, of Cleveland, Ohio and Richard Chandler, Morehouse Class of 2025.

 

Professionally, Ria is a Department Coordinator at the University of Louisville and serves on the Staff Senate and the Black Faculty Staff Association.

 

Ria is very active in the community and serves several non-profit organizations including the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana as first vicechair to the board of directors, Chestnut Street Family YMCA Black Achievers Program as vice-president of the steering committee and career cluster leader, West Louisville Math and Science Project Board, President of the Louisville Urban League Guild, President of the Western Branch Library Support Association and serves on the Nativity Academy of St. Boniface Board of Directors. She is the Associate Chair of the Derby City Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc and has been very active in efforts to encourage attendance at Historically Black Colleges and Universities as a volunteer of the Education First Foundation (Showcase of HBCUs). She is an active member of First Gethsemane Baptist Church, where she serves in numerous capacities including serving on the board of the Center for Family Development. Ria is president of the North Central region of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Convention of Kentucky, which is an auxiliary of the General Association of Baptist of Kentucky and is on the board of the Baptist Women’s Educational Convention and Institute.

 

As excited as she is to serve as the Morehouse College Parents Council Member-At-Large (assisting with bylaws and transitions), she will proudly let you know that she attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her favorite pastime is reading and volunteering. She is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for her volunteer efforts including being recognized as a Honorable Kentucky Colonel. Her greatest title is Grand’Mere to Langston Lee Chandler.
