NSO 2026: Where Families Become Forever
There’s a moment during New Student Orientation at Morehouse College that no parent ever forgets. It’s the moment you realize your son is no longer just yours. He belongs to something bigger now. He belongs to Morehouse.
NSO 2026 took place August 12–18 on the historic campus at 830 Westview Drive in Atlanta, welcoming the Class of 2030 into the brotherhood that has shaped leaders for over 150 years. For an entire week, new students were immersed in the Morehouse tradition, meeting faculty, discovering campus resources, learning the expectations of what it means to be a Man of Morehouse, and beginning the transformation from young men with potential into Morehouse Men with purpose.
But NSO isn’t just for the students. In many ways, it’s just as important for the families.
For parents, the week is bittersweet. You watch your son walk across a campus that produced Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Spike Lee, and generations of leaders who changed the world. You see him standing a little taller. You see him looking around at hundreds of other young Black men who share his ambition, his drive, and his dreams. And somewhere between the orientation sessions and the campus tours, it hits you: he’s ready. And so are you.
The legendary Parent’s Parting Ceremony is the moment that brings it all together. Rooted in the ancient African tradition of sending a warrior away from home, the ceremony marks the transition from boy with potential to Man of Morehouse. It’s the moment where families and sons acknowledge that they are about to be separated by distance but forever unified by values, trust, respect, loyalty, and love.

Where MCPC Comes In
The Morehouse College Parent Council exists because no parent should navigate this journey alone.
During NSO 2026, MCPC was on the ground welcoming new families into our community. We understand what it feels like to leave your son 2,000 miles from home because many of us have done it ourselves. We know the anxiety of wondering if he’ll eat well, make good friends, stay focused, and find his way. And we know that the best thing a Morehouse parent can have, besides faith, is a community of parents who understand exactly what you’re going through.
MCPC connects families across nine regions nationwide and internationally, from Georgia and Alabama to California, from the Caribbean to Europe and the UAE. We are mothers, fathers, grandparents, and guardians united by one thing: we all have a son at Morehouse and we all want to see him succeed.
Through MCPC, families gain access to a network that extends far beyond the campus gates. We share resources, support one another through the challenges of college life, fundraise for student programming, and make sure that every Morehouse parent knows they are part of something bigger than themselves.
Because that’s what Morehouse teaches our sons: that you are part of something bigger.
